Yeah, I'm trying to screw up some optimism. I do think, in the future, there are going to be incredible tools that solve real problems.
The real takeaway *should* have been: Build strong, mutually respectful connections with other humans. Help each other, pay it forward, and stay positive. Something like that.
I had to do a "one-way video interview" as the first step for a job that I had a referral for recently. This job didn't even list a salary range, something I'd normally discuss in the first round with HR. It was so dehumanizing. My brother works in HR and I was kind of baffled that he likes these interivews. It doesn't seem like it's increase efficiency much for an employer, so I don't get it. It's a weird market.
This is the exact feeling I would have expected. It *is* dehumanizing, but I would guess there's a better way to integrate this tech into the process. It's early days, and that's when new tech is the most awkward. But, a recruit's first experience is a weird place to roll out tech.
This did not do much to cure my existential dread about the algorithm, but is highly informative!
